HAZLET – Friends of Hazlet gym teacher Valerie DeNardo have missed her dearly since she died of cancer Dec. 4, 2018 at age 60. Mrs. DeNardo, as she is known to many Hazlet students, possessed a fun-loving, energetic personality. Her light shone brightly
In May, her friends came up with a way to honor that spirit. On August 17, they will host the first “Field FestiVAL” at Veterans Park. A throwback to a traditional Field Day at school, the best day of the year, which so many people associate with Val.
“Do you remember Field Day when you were a little kid? Getting together with classmates to compete in games like tug-of-war, potato sack races, and relay races…that was the best! Especially if you had Valerie DeNardo as your gym teacher!” wrote Shannon Andress, on the Facebook page announcing the event.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation in Valerie’s name and provide a Raritan High School graduate pursuing a degree in education with a scholarship in Valerie’s name.
Register as a spectator, competitor, or a team. Registration closes July 28. Limited spots available.
