Hazlet Fire Co. #1, North Centerville Fire Company and West Keansburg Fire Company responded to flaming mulch, a major accident on the Parkway and plenty of false alarms in April, 2019. Here is the log, from public records.
April 3, 12:55 p.m.: False alarm triggered at Party City, 3082 Route 35.
April 3, 5:35 p.m.: Report of sparking wires at a house on Pinewood Ave. Utility company called.
April 7, 8:54 a.m.: Sprinkler malfunction set off an alarm at Extra Space Storage at 1 Phyllis St. (off Clark Street.)
April 9, 11:13 a.m.: Fire alarm set off by a malfunction at Baron’s Corner Shopping Plaza on Union Ave.
April 10, 10:39 a.m.: Another false alarm at Baron’s Corner reported.
April 11, 3:06 p.m.: A heat detector in the kitchen set off a fire alarm at Holiday Inn Express. The alarm required a reset.
April 14, 12:58 a.m.: North Centerville Fire Co. provided assistance at the massive Dunes Cafe Fire on the Ocean Grove North Pavilion, The fire company arrived at 2:16 a.m. and returned 8:54 a.m.
April 15, 3:07 p.m.: Monmouth County received a 911 call of a possible structure fire with heavy smoke coming from the rear of a residence in the area of Wood Road and Moak Drive. All stations and first aid were dispatched, but it was a homeowner burning trees that were wet, which caused him the heavy smoke. Fire Dept. advised him to not do that.
April 15, 7:09 p.m.: A strong odor of something burning on Lynn Boulevard was reported. A utility pole was identified and JCP&L was called to the scene.
April 15, 9:50 p.m. Firefighters determine an electrical issue at a resident on Irwin Place requires an electrician and JCP&L on the scene.
April 16: A false alarm at Staples, 3140 Route 35.
April 17: The mulch around an electrical sign on Middle Road caught fire. The property owner was advised to call an electrician as it was melted around the sign.
April 17, 8:13 p.m. The gas meter around the concession stand at the Hazlet Swim & Tennis Club on Green Acres Drive was making a loud hissing noise. No gas readings were detected, and the unit will be monitored by the DPW.
April 18, 8:05 a.m.: A small brushfire was reported on Poole Ave.
April 19, 8:44 a.m.: The smell of burning plastic at Bank of America, 2 Bethany Road, was reported but firefighters determined the smell was from cleaning products.
April 19, 9:20 p.m. A faulty combination CO/smoke detector set off an alarm in Pine Creek Village. No readings were detected, and the homeowner was advised to replace it.
April 19: 11:35 p.m.: People smoking in a room at Holiday Inn Express set off the alarm.
April 19, 11:55 p.m. A false alarm at CVS Drugs, 3391 Route 35. It went off again, erroneously, at 12:50 and in a different zone at 1:11 p.m. while the fire department was present. The alarm was reset and tested.
April 23, 11:50 p.m.: Hazlet fire assisted at a hydraulic fluid spill on Holmdel Road until the county hazmat team took over.
April 24, 7:50 p.m.: Structure fire reported at Parkview Drive.
April 25, 11:13 p.m.: Mutual aid for a medevac landing at the Union Beach soccer fields at Stone Road.
April 27, 11:05 a.m.: Hazlet police assisted in the aftermath of the major accident on the Garden State Parkway Express lanes, between exit 118-119, involving two rolled over vehicles. They helped transport one to the hospital.
April 27, 5:48 p.m. False alarm at Holiday Inn Express.
April 28, 7:36 p.m.: False alarm on Galway Drive.
April 29, 6:58 p.m.: Mutual aid for a CO alarm in Holmdel.
April 30, 10:12 a.m.: Construction company struck a gas line near Amato’s at 589 Palmer Ave. and needed to evacuate the area. It was on Middletown’s side of the road, and Middletown and New Jersey Natural Gas were called to the scene.
