HAZLET –Voters approved Fire District No. 1’s budget and elected two members to the Hazlet Township Board of Fire Commissioners at the Feb. 16 election.
With absentee and provisional ballots counted, the fire district announced that the 2019 budget passed by a margin of 150 to 123.
Joseph Schroek and Leslie Parleman won three-year terms on the 5-member commission with 167 and 164 votes respectively. John Boyle received 126 votes. There were six write-in candidates who each received one or two votes each.
The budget reflects total revenues of $2,317,441, which includes $2,005,040 to be raised by taxation, and total appropriations of $2,317,441.
The amount to be raised by taxation will increase $41,436 – a 2.1 percent increase over last year’s amount of $1,963,604.
The proposed tax rate per $100 of assessed valuation is $.081.
A Hazlet resident’s total property tax bill is comprised of taxes for school, municipal, county, fire district and municipal open space.
The Fire Commissioners monthly public meeting is held on the second Wednesday of each month at Municipal Hall. The workshop begins at 6:30, and the voting meeting is at 7:30 p.m.
