HAZLET –The owner of the vacant Bradlees property at 1150 State Route 35 is challenging five years of tax assessments, arguing they are too high.
On Jan. 14, representatives of the property owner, VNO, a limited liability company associated with Vornado Realty Trust, met in state tax court with Hazlet Township Attorney Jim Gorman to argue their case for a lower assessment for years 2013-2017. Judge Mala Sundar is seeking more information before issuing an opinion, according to Gorman.
The 9.6 acre property, identified on the Hazlet tax map as Block 65, Lot 4, was assessed at values ranging from $4,420,000 to $4,700,000 in those years.
VNO counsel, Skoloff & Wolfe, has withdrawn a separate case challenging 2018’s assessment of $4,669,500 for tax year 2018.
In 2018, VNO paid $123,508 in property taxes to Hazlet imposed by the Hazlet tax assessor’s office.
