HAZLET – A 54-year old man was killed crossing Route 36 near the Middle Road intersection in the early hours of Monday, Jan. 21, according to Hazlet Police Lt. Robert Mulligan.
The victim was Robert W. Pisano of Neptune Township, according to Lt. Scott Mura Tuesday.
Police received a call at 2:23 a.m. from the 53-year old male driver of a 2008 Dodge Avenger, John F Hermans of Yonkers, reporting he had hit the pedestrian, said police. Hermans stayed at the scene, Mulligan said.
Pisano, struck in the “fast” lane of Route 36 North, died at the scene, Mulligan said.
According to Mura, the collision occurred 150 feet away from a crosswalk.
Per standard policy in such cases, the driver was asked to submit a blood sample at the hospital to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The roadway was reopened by 6 a.m., said Mulligan.
Responding to the scene with Hazlet Police were investigators with the Monmouth County’s Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART.)
The SCART team is continuing to investigate the accident.
Funeral details have been announced for Tuesday, Jan. 29. Details can be found at Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals.
